Student Show Review

March 3, 2017

So Sunday saw us play our 13th Student Jam Day at our regular venue of Everest Community School and it was a cracking day of rock and roll with all performers playing fantastic in front of a packed crowd.

An early start to the day saw the band arrive for a 10am set up and sound check, special thanks go to the McAllister Music team on the day of Matthew Hitching, Tyler Davis & Amy Bonfield who came in nice and early to get us all set up and going.

Kicking the whole show off was Shantanu in his first apperance ever on stage bringing us some Uptown funk and putting in a great nerve free performance followed by Daniel playing in a rocking bit of beauty boys! Mackenzie treated the crowd to a little AC/DC next ,powering out the opening riff nice and loud the way its meant to be played! Amy took to the stage next for a flawless version of Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name" including the tapped solo section too. Kieran added a little Taylor Swift to the stage with some Shake It Off and Richard pulled out his acoustic Guitar to add a little spice to Wheatus big hit Teenage Dirtbag.

The Guitar performers from the first half of show 1:  Richard, Shantanu , Amy , Daniel , Mackenzie, Kieran.

During the Interval in show one we had a performance from the student band Prospect, playing some very cool jazz pop before David and our resident teacher / sound engineer Matthew blew the dust from a little Jackie Wilson with an superb performance of Higher & Higher featuring Jake on the Cajun and a slide guitar solo from David. Maria joined Nick on stage to give us an awesome back beat to use somebody by the Kings Of Leon and we finished the first show with Michael on guitar ripping through Mr Brightside by The Killers.

Our second show of the day was the busiest, starting with Charlotte & Millie on guitars and Robbie on the bass giving us the riff to Cake By The Ocean followed by our second Taylor Swift track of the day with Toby on the drums.

Our next performer was a very special one, with Annalise on guitar playing Dance With Me Tonight, Annalise has only been having lessons since the start of this year with us here at McAllister Music and was very brave to get us so early and completely smash this one!

Sunshine Of Your Love by Cream was up next with Steve's nephew Freddie on the drums and Scott handling the riffs and a great improvised solo! Bohemian Like You but the Dandy Warhols was drummed superbly by Oliver on the sticks and the we had our father and son duo of Tony & Oscar giving us some old school rock no roll with Chuck Berrys Jonny B Goode , you can check out Oscars solo below:

Sol on the drums rocked out some Blur with Song 2 and then our second great performance of Highway to Hell bought the first half of show 2 to a close with Jack & Val joined by Billylee on the guitars and Jacks dad Mike on the drums!

Our last set of the day featured Connor on guitars playing some Teenage Dirtbag, and you can find some Go Pro footage of his superb version on our videos page with Paul on the drums beating out a little Fight For Your Right featuring an over the top solo from Steve!

Toby hopped on the kit to count out a little Journey with CJ on guitar joined by Kim on the bass and Matthew adding the excellent guitar lines and keyboard parts on the guitar. Despite a few nerves in the day CJ handled all the power chords superbly and put in a great performance with a big smile on his face.

Robbie re-joined us on the bass to handle the low end with Olivia on drums for a cool version of Use Somebody with Lee replacing Robbie to handle the 4 string duties for the final three songs of the day, Sex on Fire featured Kim on the vocals and then it was on to a little funk groove with Richard playing lead guitar on Superstition , you can find his awesome outro solo on our Facebook page.

Nathan was the last guitarist of the day taking on Lenny Kravitz's classic Are You Gonna Go My Way? which produced a great lead solo (improvised on the day) and a very funky bass groove from Lee.

Our quiz completion ran throughout the day with drummers Freddie and Olivia taking home the prizes .. try not to eat them all at once and with the last round of applause it was time to end our 13th student jam day!

Thank you to all our performers on the day and always impressive Kate & Lindsay on the vocals. And as ever a big shout out to my teaching other half Nick for all his hard work, and the McAllister Music team of Tyler Davis, Matthew Hitching and Amy Bonfield for all the help on the Day.
